Accommodation at Le Bégué

Spacious throughout. Four bedrooms. Sleeps up to 13 people.

Le Bégué enjoys a commanding position with fabulous views across the valley and to the Pyrenean peaks beyond.

Set in several acres of pasture and woodland, Le Bégué is a traditional mountain farmhouse, which has been tastefully converted to provide gite holiday accommodation, with the added benefit of a swimming pool in the summer months.

Although no longer a working farm, you’ll almost certainly see or hear livestock in the neighbouring pastures during your stay.

The house dates back to around 1800 and has been sympathetically renovated to retain much of its unique character. Inside you’ll still see exposed beams and even the ancient bread oven in the kitchen, alongside the creature comforts of modern living such as double glazing and (free) wifi.

Ground floor

The ground floor follows an open-plan layout with living area at one end, and kitchen and dining area at the other.

The kitchen is equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas-fired range cooker and microwave. The large wooden dining table will comfortably seat everyone – even a full house.

From the kitchen, a door leads onto the terrace at the side of the house, where you can enjoy a meal or drink while taking in the views.

A separate laundry room houses a washing machine and there is a cloakroom with toilet and hand basin.

The living room features an attractive open fireplace and comfortable sofas for relaxing in and for cosy evenings. For your entertainment a TV, DVD player and music dock are provided.

A glazed lobby around the front door means when it’s a bit cooler you can still have the front door open to enjoy the light and views until dark.

An original sweeping wooden staircase leads you upstairs.

Comfortable and welcoming all year round

The whole house is well insulated and has a centrally controlled heating system and double glazing. For added warmth and atmosphere in winter, there’s an open fire – with a ready (and free) supply of logs.

The windows have traditional working shutters, providing a true French feel and are ideal for keeping the light out when you want to sleep. The house is built with thick stone walls, keeping it nice and cool on hot summer days.

Despite the property’s rural mountain location, internet connection is good and free wifi is included.

Outside the house

The gardens are of a natural style with flowers in spring and summer. There is the lovely terrace, with access to the kitchen, where there are two picnic benches, large parasols and a barbecue.

Situated in front of the house in a secure and sheltered wall garden you will discover the above ground swimming pool which enjoys wonderful mountain views. It is available for use in July and August and is a lovely way to cool off on warm summer days.

Behind the house is a flat area suitable for a game of boules or badminton.

There is also a traditional stone bench under a tree – a perfect vantage point from which to savour the panoramic view over the Pyrenean mountainscape.

In summer, the surrounding pastures are often grazed by cows and you can hear the soothing ringing of the bells around their necks as they graze.

There is a small waterfall at the entrance to the property, a pretty feature (but not for unsupervised children).

Adjacent to the house is a large secure stone-built barn with electricity and lighting suitable for storing bikes or working on them.
